During the month of April, CFB had events and actions that underscore CFB’s mandate, which is to promote a Christian understanding of business. As is often the case, reflection slows us down so that we can more fully experience things. Our CFB team decided to reflect on the past month so that we may be grateful for all that God is doing in our midst.
On April 1, 2025 we launched the newly redesigned CFB and Faith & Co websites. After months of hard work co-partnering with Dayspring Partners in designing, shaping page layouts and endeavoring to make navigation easier for our three personas: the instructor, the business professional and church leaders; the two sites were launched. On April 7, the 2025 Frank Haas Integrity in Business Award was presented to Jeff Van Duzer, former Dean of SBE and Provost at Seattle Pacific University. Former colleagues like Denise Daniels, Randy Franz, joined heartfelt tributes by Steve Haas (Frank’s son), Uli Chi, Alec Hill, Ross Stewart and Eric Stumberg. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Jeff’s faithful work in higher education, business and his service to the Church.
On April 22, we hosted another impactful coffee talk. Dave Nienhuis Professor of New Testament Studies at SPU led a conversation on the Usefulness of Scripture. During the conversation we were reminded that scripture aids our life of faith by making us proficient in our faith. Coffee Talk is an informal gathering for SPU students to directly engage with topics on faith and work integration.
On April 24, CFB’s executive director, JoAnn Flett, was the featured speaker at C3 Leaders women leaders’ annual event. The group enjoyed watching Second Chances, a Season 2 film, and examining Queen Esther as an exemplar of moral courage in leadership.
Lastly, the CFB team selected five Pollard Scholars for the incoming 2025 cohort. On Thursdays, during the month of May, we will be sharing more about these scholars. Their SPU campus visit in June allows them to access Bill Pollard’s archival material in the Ames Library and engage in a deeper study of the ServiceMaster Story. Their campus visit is always such a blessing.
During April we also celebrated our Lord’s resurrection on Easter Sunday. We are so thankful to our resurrected Lord for this next season of work. Hallelujah, Christ IS risen! We hope that you are experiencing the risen Lord’s resurrection power in your life and work.
