Walking the Faithful Path: Post-Graduation Transition into the Workforce
By Nicole Baker August 3, 2023
As I stand at the doorstep of post-graduation life, I am acutely aware of the delicate dance between my faith and my career. The transition from the structured world of academia to the uncharted territory of the workforce is a journey filled with uncertainties and challenges. However, it is also an opportunity to let faith guide me as I navigate this new phase of life.
Change -in all facets of my life- is the most significant during this transition. I relocated from Seattle to Nevada because I felt called to help plant a church. I have a whole new routine and a new environment that I am learning to adjust to. This transition has taught me to find balance through faith. My faith encourages me to maintain a sense of discipline and purpose in my daily routines, even when external structures that were afforded by SPU’s academic environment are absent. It reminds me to start each day with gratitude, while acknowledging the opportunities ahead.
During this transition period, I have been honored to continue my work at the Center for Faithful Business. My role at the Center has taught me so much of what it means to work with purpose, integrity, and dedication to making a meaningful impact. While my time at the Center won’t last forever, I am reminded that each redirection in my life is an opportunity to learn and grow. While there are moments of doubt and insecurity, faith encourages me to trust in God and to believe that every season of waiting is a step closer to where I am meant to be.
As I go further into my career, I carry the values I’ve learned from the CFB and SPU. Integrity, compassion, and empathy are not just words but principles by which I live. I strive to be a person of character, someone who brings positive change to the workplace. My faith reminds me that my job is not just a means to a paycheck but an avenue to make a meaningful contribution to the world on behalf of God.
In this transition, I’ve learned that networking and building relationships in the professional world can be challenging, but faith guides me in these interactions. I believe every person I meet has a unique story, and my faith encourages me to approach them with an open heart. It reminds me that the connections I make can be instrumental in not only advancing my career but also in serving God’s purpose for me.
Furthermore, faith in God helps me find a sense of purpose in my work. It prompts me to consider how my contributions can positively impact others, regardless of where I’m called. My faith reinforces that my work can be a source of goodness and transformation.
In conclusion, the transition from graduation to the workforce is a journey that has tested not only my skills but also my faith. It is a journey of self-discovery, growth, and learning more about purpose. By letting my faith in God guide my path, I find strength in uncertainty, purpose in my work, and a sense of peace in the midst of life’s challenges. I embrace this journey with open arms, knowing that God will be my steadfast companion as I walk this path into the future.
